THE PREDICTION
World number three was in a real battle with Jack Sock in his first match back on tour for almost two months but the 35-year-old eventually came through in three sets. Nadal will take plenty of information forwards from such a tough opening test and winning via a tiebreak against the hard-hitting American is excellent match practice as he aims to get sharp in time for the incoming US Open. In his way of the quarter-finals is world number 50 Lloyd Harris, who was in control of his first match in Washington against Tennys Sandgren before the American was forced to retire in the second set. 24-year-old Harris has beaten top 20 players before and reached a first ATP 500 final earlier this year before losing to Aslan Karatsev but this should be too tough a challenge right now. Nadal will be eager to win this in a statement straight sets as the top seed and after a scare against Sock he should be able to do so here.
