World number three Aryna Sabalenka was thoroughly impressive against compatriot Victoria Azarenka on Friday, beating the former world number one in straight sets to reach the semi-finals. The 23-year-old has thrived this week as the top seed in Montreal, getting better with each passing round, and she will be eager for revenge here against world number six Karolina Pliskova. The 29-year-old Czech star halted Sabalenka’s route to the Wimbledon final in a thrilling three-set semi-final at SW19 that surprised a lot of people for its quality. Pliskova has also been excellent this week at the Canada Masters, conceding just the one set to Dinna Vekic in the second round before straight-set wins over Amanda Anisimova and in-form Sara Sorribes Tormo.
