This is a surprising first meeting between two veterans but 34-year-old Gael Monfils and 32-year-old John Millman really will take to the court together for the first time in their careers on Wednesday. World number 22 Monfils comes in cold after a first round loss at Tokyo 2020 to Ilya Ivashka in keeping with what looks to be his worst season on tour possibly ever. The Frenchman has won just three matches this season as both fitness and fatigue seem to have hampered him but whilst marriage seemed to bolster his new wife Elina Svitolina to success at the Olympics it seems he is still very shaky. World number 43 Millman will be eager to claim a big win here after beating Ricardas Berankis in comfortable fashion on Monday and the wily Aussie will know to stick with Monfils throughout for the opportunities. It will probably go to three sets but Millman is in much the better shape right now and should come through as the outright winner.
