THE PREDICTION
Both world number 48 Sara Sorribes Tormo and number 55 Katerina Siniakova have enjoyed the best season of their careers so far, particularly this summer. Siniakova, especially, has achieved great success alongside her Women’s Doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova with the pair winning Roland-Garros in June, the Madrid Open and Gippsland Trophy before that and most recently a Gold Medal at Tokyo 2020. The 25-year-old has seen vast improvements in her Singles performances as a result as she reached her first WTA final at the Bad Homburg Open in June, finishing runner-up to Angelique Kerber. Her next opponent, Sorribes Tormo, went one better with a first WTA title won in Guadalajara but her best performances have come more recently with a huge victory at Tokyo 2020 over world number one Ash Barty.
The pair have one win each against the other, with Siniakova’s coming this year on her way through to the Bad Homburg Open final. That straight-sets win puts the onus on her to emulate that but recent form suggests Sorribes Tormo can go 2-1 up in their head-to-head record here. This is a tough one to call, though, and three sets looks likely. Take Sorribes Tormo to win at least one set as the likelier of two capable winners.
