THE PREDICTION
It is almost a shame for one of Reilly Opelka or Lloyd Harris to have to leave the Canada Masters at the hands of the other here. Both players are enjoying their time in Toronto and over the last few weeks both have put in some of their best performances, Harris most especially by beating Rafael Nadal last week in Washington. Having avoided a rematch with the Spaniard, world number 49 Harris beat Feliciano Lopez handily to show for great focus and he is yet to drop a set this campaign. World number 32 Opelka took out Nick Kyrgios in a thrilling first round encounter and backed that up with a straight-sets win over 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov to set up this head-scratcher.
The pair have never faced each other at tour level and both are in some of the best form of their young careers this week. Having vanquished Nadal last week for the win of his career, Harris could be considered the slight favourite here but Opelka’s game is so tough to break down when he is in this mood. The winner is tough to call in this first meeting but take Opelka to win at least a set as the likelier to come through a potential tiebreak situation.
