World number six Karolina Pliskova looks to have struck off Tokyo 2020 as a bad week with a comeback victory against Donna Vekic on Wednesday in Montreal. The 29-year-old has 16 WTA titles to her name and almost added a first Grand Slam trophy to that illustrious list as she finished runner-up to Ash Barty at Wimbledon last month. Pliskova has also reached the US Open final and looks a solid title contender for the last major of the year. In her way of a second WTA 1000 title is world number 86 Amanda Anisimova, with the American teenager enjoying her week in Montreal so far. The 19-year-old reached a career-high 21st in the WTA world rankings back in 2019 and should find herself there again one day, though she had to come through the qualifiers
Anisimova is certainly still a bright prospect for the future but this looks like a straight-sets victory for in-form Karolina Pliskova. The Czech star leads their head-to-head record 2-0 with two straight-sets wins at Indian Wells in 2018 and the Wuhan Open a year later. Pliskova looks to be gearing up well for an assault on the US Open later this month and she is tough to stop in this mood so take her to come through without dropping a set.
