World number 28 Danielle Collins could well be in the form of her career right now as she beat the returning Simona Halep in three sets on Wednesday to win her 12th straight match. The 27-year-old won her first ever WTA title just two weeks ago at the Palermo Ladies Open and then bettered that with a first WTA 500 event won at the Silicon Valley Classic last week. The American is gearing up for a very intriguing US Open campaign and she has pedigree for doing, with a run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2019 her breakthrough on tour. In her way is fellow American Jessica Pegula, who looks to be regaining her best level too after two impressive wins over Anett Kontaveit and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. The world number 30, also 27, also made her best Grand Slam run at the Australian Open, reaching the quarter-finals earlier this season.
There are plenty of similarities to admire between Collins and Pegula and this looks incredibly close.
