THE PREDICTION
This should be a fascinating second meeting between world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas and number 12 Casper Ruud after their first ended in a shock straight-sets victory to the Norwegian earlier this year. 22-year-old Ruud beat Tsitsipas in the round of 16 of the Madrid Masters back when the Greek looked untouchable on the surface and Tsitsipas never really regained that solidity on the surface. At this moment in time Ruud is the man in better form having won his last three tournaments and two matches here against Marin Cilic and Dusan Lajovic to register a 14-match winning streak but on hard courts it should be Tsitsipas levelling their head-to-head record.
Tsitsipas turned 23 years old on Thursday, celebrating with a very impressive straight-sets victory over in-form Karen Khachanov to reach the quarter-finals. Without Messrs Djokovic and Nadal in Toronto the second seed will greatly fancy his chances at reaching the final for a likely blockbusting clash with Daniil Medvedev on Sunday. Ruud’s form is such that this match may well need a decider but take Tsitsipas to come through eventually.
