29-year-old Coco Vandeweghe has resurfaced from seemingly nowhere at the Birmingham Classic via a strong qualifying campaign and two good results against Kristyna Pliskova and Ajla Tomljanovic to reach the quarter-finals. The American reached a career-high ninth in the WTA rankings in 2018 but currently hovers around the top 200 mark so a run like this is something vital for her chances of coming back to form. In her way is world number 50 Marie Bouzkova, who snapped a five-match losing streak coming into the Birmingham Classic with two good wins this campaign over Hsieh Su-Wei and Caroline Garcia. This match looks a difficult one to call but Vandeweghe’s sudden surge of wins will be a powerful force to stop for 22-year-old Bouzkova so take the American to win at least a set here.
