World number 98 Roberto Carballes Baena will be buzzing after securing one of the biggest wins of his career yesterday in beating Gael Monfils over a mammoth three-set encounter. However, the Spaniard comes up against one of the most in-form players on clay right now in Argentina’s Federico Delbonis and their head-to-head record makes grim reading for the Spaniard. 30-year-old Delbonis has beaten Carballes Baena in all four of their previous meetings, all of them on clay, and recently, too, at the Andalucia Open last month. The world number 52 shot up the world rankings after reaching the round of 16 of the Madrid Open and then the quarter-finals of the Italian Open, both Masters events, via some excellent wins against the likes of Pablo Carreno Busta and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
