THE PREDICTION
Five-time Atlanta Open champion John Isner has fought tooth and nail this week to reach a remarkable ninth final at this tournament. The 36-year-old has won a third of his career ATP titles at this event and an incredible 13 out of 15 on American soil, with four titles also coming at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport. That kind of experience and consistency puts him in pole position to win a record-extending sixth title on Sunday but he will have to gain revenge for a semi-final loss last week at the Los Cabos Open to 19-year-old Brandon Nakashima. The world number 115 has beaten the first seed Milos Raonic this week by coming back from a set down and he did so again to reach a second-consecutive ATP final by beating Emil Ruusuvuori on Saturday.
This match could not be more about youth versus experience as Brandon Nakashima continues to light up the North American swing. The teenager is fast becoming a new poster boy for the next generation of American male tennis players alongside Sebastian Korda and his straight-sets victory over John Isner last week in Mexico was really the start of that spotlight. World number 35 Isner will have hindsight on his side this time and it remains to be seen how well Nakashima reacts to a second shot at a final so soon after his first. For that reason, take the veteran to win at least a set this time around and you could add a tiebreak in the match for good measure.
