THE PREDICTION
This promises to be an electrifying battle between Kevin Anderson and Andrey Rublev but plenty of outside factors will rest on the outcome. For one, Anderson’s form at this tournament has come out of nowhere after his long return from injury and while the South African is a highly decorated former world number five he is in the latter stages of his career at 34 years old. The opposite can be said for 23-year-old Rublev, who has the joint-highest titles (4) to his name this year alongside Novak Djokovic and he has been getting better exponentially since last Autumn. However, he has now come through two players in Jannik Sinner and Dominic Thiem who were hampered by injuries and he will have to gear up for a tougher challenge now. The pair have one win apiece against each other, although Anderson’s win came against an 18-year-old Rublev back in 2015 and the Russian’s victory came at the start of this month at Roland-Garros. Rublev’s 2020 form coupled with that straight-sets defeat of Anderson exactly four weeks ago makes a strong case for the Russian making it through here in similar fashion, though Anderson is stronger now and will be a real test.
