THE PREDICTION
World number 33 Dan Evans came through his first round match against Aljaz Bedene by an eventual retirement as the Slovenian could not continue, although the match was practically over in the second set anyway. Evans never really got going in a match that never left second gear but he will need all the more energy against plucky young Austrian Jurij Rodionov, who provided the shock of the first round when he beat Denis Shapovalov in straight sets. The 21-year-old will be well supported in Vienna and is certainly better than his current ranking at world number 153. This is a tricky test for Evans, who so often thrives on being the underdog, and he will have to find a different mentality as the villain of this piece in Vienna. Ultimately the British number one should come through here but the momentum behind Rodionov will likely see this go to a deciding set.
