THE PREDICTION
The two players who lost out in last week’s European Open semi-finals will face off here in a vastly interesting match-up that should be full of quality. World number 20 Grigor Dimitrov was emphatic in his defeat of the third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on Thursday night and looked to have plenty of energy at the close of their two-hour long three-set match. That should bode warnings to Dan Evans, who is yet to drop a set at the Vienna Open this week but will also face the first player ranked higher than him. The pair share a 3-1 head-to-head record, with the Bulgarian claiming the lion’s share of those wins but Evans is enjoying a career-year in 2020 and has every chance of reaching his second-successive semi-final. The British number one has another gear left at this tournament having defeated Aljaz Bedene and Jurij Rodionov in relative comfort and if he can reach it this match looks set for a decider at the very least. This match should be a real spectacle before a winner is called. Given their form and performances in Vienna this week, it is likelier that Dimitrov battles through, but the reverse result would not be a shock.
