THE PREDICTION
It is a credit to the strength of the draw here at the Vienna Open that Pablo Carreno Busta is not a seeded player after his recent exploits. The Spaniard is up to world number 15 in the ATP rankings following excellent showings at both the US and French Opens and should be taken as a serious contender for the title here. Carreno Busta lost in the first round at last week’s European Open, albeit to the eventual champion Ugo Humbert, but following his French Open run this could be expected. PCB will face Gael Monfils as the Frenchman returns from a quick injury lay-off following his first-round French Open exit and this match should be one of the best of the opening round in Vienna. 34-year-old Monfils will have one eye on improving his fitness in time for the incoming Paris Masters and current form suggests he will succumb to the strong hard-court game of his opponent here, though it could take three sets.
