After a slow start to his resumption of the season, Cristian Garin has put together a couple of promising campaigns at the Hamburg Open and Roland-Garros. The world number 22 was enjoying 2020, with two South American ATP titles to his name before the covid-19 outbreak, and could be a big mover next season in a hopefully untroubled clay season. He faces a former Vienna pen finalist in Stan Wawrinka and the Swiss was the victor in their only previous match at last year’s French Open. With three ATP ranks between them and some decent recent form from both players, this match looks like it could go either way. For want of a result, four of Wawrinka’s last six matches have seen a set go to both competitors and this match could follow suit with a decider likely. However, Wawrinka should be the player to come through this tussle.
