THE PREDICTION

A Rome Masters semi-final loss to Novak Djokovic back in September followed by another last-four placing at the German Open saw Casper Ruud as one of the stand-out players after the re-start to the season but the promising Norwegian has fallen away somewhat since. It is already no secret that Ruud is an excellent clay specialist and he reached a career-high 25th in the ATP rankings off the back of that clay court form but he has yet to truly transpose those skills to the other surfaces. He enters this match as the higher-ranked player but against the ever-rising star of Jannik Sinner he will be the underdog. 19-year-old Sinner looks set to continue climbing the rankings himself after a debut quarter-final at Roland-Garros was backed up with a semi-final loss to the eventual Cologne 2 champion Alexander Zverev on Saturday. Sinner is up to world number 43 and could embark on another deep run at the Vienna Open, starting with a well-contested win here.
