THE PREDICTION

This will be the first tour-level meeting between world number eight Andrey Rublev and Slovakia’s Norbert Gombos, who has enjoyed some success since the re-start. The 30-year-old claimed a big career-win when he beat Borna Coric in the first round of the French Open before losing out in the third round there but the Vienna Open qualifier is in for a rough ride here. Fifth-seed Rublev took a well-deserved week off after winning his native St. Petersburg Open title, also an ATP 500 event, two weeks ago and will come into this tournament with real intent. 23-year-old Rublev should be a contender for the latter stages in Vienna anyway but the added incentive of ATP Finals qualification should see this match won in comfortable straight sets by the Russian.
