THE PREDICTION
Aljaz Bedene beat Lorenzo Sonego in the qualifiers to make the main draw in Vienna and will face Dan Evans for the first time at tour-level here. The Slovenian lost in the first round of last week’s European Open to stiff competition in Milos Raonic but has beaten the likes of Taylor Fritz and Cristian Garin since the resumption of the season. Evans, however, claimed one of the best wins of his career last week at the European Open when he beat Karen Khachanov to reach the semi-finals. He looked good for that match against Ugo Humbert but was ultimately overcome in over three hours by the promising young Frenchman, who went on to win the title. 30-year-old Evans will have to refocus quickly here after the disappointment of losing that semi-final and for that reason this match, like many of his recent fixtures, looks likely to take a deciding set but the British number one can battle through to the next round.
