THE PREDICTION
Mikhail Kukushkin came through a mammoth second-round match as he outlasted Chile’s Cristian Garin and that victory against the number 13 seed will give the Kazakh plenty of confidence heading into this encounter. His opponent Jordan Thompson has not enjoyed great success this year but the Australian has found a bit of form this week and has recorded four-set victories over both Stefano Travaglia and Egor Gerasimov to reach this stage. He has used his dangerous forehand to good effect in those matches and it should cause Kukushkin some problems here if he finds his range, but the Kazakh’s defence can be impregnable at times and he is tipped to come through this encounter in four sets.
