Gilles Simon and Taylor Fritz have met once before back in 2016 on clay where Simon won in straights sets but this match could be very different. The French veteran had no trouble dispatching Mohamed Safwat in the first round but Taylor Fritz will provide a completely different challenge. The American youngster was playing some great tennis prior to lockdown and he is improving all the time. He lost his opening set to Dominik Koepfer but he responded in style winning the next three sets and he will be confident on this surface against Simon. Simon has not passed the second round in any of the last five editions of the US Open, and the emerging Fritz can get the better of the experienced Frenchman in four or five sets here.
