THE PREDICTION
Fourth-seed Karen Khachanov made quick work of defeating James Duckworth in the first round of the St. Petersburg Open to set up this all-Russian encounter with wildcard Aslan Karatsev. The world number 17 has never made it past this stage of his native tournament but Khachanov has an excellent opportunity to make the quarter-finals now. Karatsev pulled off a statement win against Tennys Sandgren in the first match of the tournament but he will lose the home advantage against one of Russia’s “Big Three”. This should be another straight-sets victory for Khachanov, who could be something of a dark horse for the title.
