THE PREDICTION

In what is quite the unexpected St. Petersburg Open final, seventh seed Borna Coric will face the third seed and home favourite Andrey Rublev after both players came from a set down to win their respective semi-finals. Coric has defied his apparent lack of form coming into this tournament to beat two heavy-hitters in Reilly Opelka and Milos Raonic on his way to a second consecutive final on this court. He lost to Russia’s Daniil Medvedev last year and could be in for more of the same if the 2020 form of Andrey Rublev will be upheld. The 22-year-old has won three ATP finals this year and, as of yet, has not lost at a tournament from the semi-finals onwards in 2020. Furthermore, he leads a healthy 3-0 head-to-head record over the Croatian with all three victories coming on hard courts. The added incentive of qualification for the approaching Nitto ATP Finals should keep Rublev in every point as he aims to win his native tournament for the first time and he looks good for the title here.
