THE PREDICTION
European Open champion Ugo Humbert was wise to take the week off following his second title win of 2020, dropping out of the Vienna Open to recharge after that excellent campaign. He faced Casper Ruud in his other title-winning campaign back in January at the ASB Classic in Auckland, where he beat the Norwegian in three sets. This will be their third meeting this year after Ruud returned the favour at the Hamburg Open more recently, also in three sets, and the two youngsters look set for many more matches together over the years as they both creep towards the Top 20. It is a shame for Humbert that he will not play in front of an adoring crowd in Paris as the French so desperately await a new superstar but he should have fared well from the week off and will be raring to go here. The two matches so far between Humbert and Ruud have fallen on each player’s favoured surface and there is little to suggest this changing here. Were it on clay, Ruud would be the favourite, but Humbert’s exploits on the hard courts of Antwerp set him up for a good campaign here and he can win this in three.
