THE PREDICTION
French favourite Richard Gasquet is on a four-match losing streak since the second round of the US Open back in September but to be fair to the veteran he has drawn some top-quality opponents in Alex de Minaur (twice), Roberto Bautista Agut and Daniil Medvedev. The 34-year-old took sets from De Minaur and Medvedev in that span and has certainly been in the matches he’s played but realistically Top 20 wins are a little above the Frenchman’s abilities these days. However, he faces world number 29 Taylor Fritz with the American in some lacklustre form since the re-start of the tennis season. The 23-year-old has looked a little tetchy on court in his recent matches and this could be exploited by Gasquet to come through in three sets; if the veteran’s shot-making is up to its exquisite best.
