THE PREDICTION
Italy’s Marco Cecchinato will take on Slovakian Norbert Gombos as two Paris Masters qualifiers with a great opportunity here to reach the second round. While 30-year-old Gombos has enjoyed some relative success since the restart, including reaching the third round at Roland-Garros, it is Cecchinato who has come closest to a title as he lost a well-contested Sardinia Open final to Laslo Djere just over two weeks ago. A poor follow-up in Cologne is to be expected but the Italian should be refreshed and ready to go on again in this first round match and Cecchinato is certainly the better player in their respective best forms. Gombos can take a set here in what could be quite a long match but the Italian should see it through.
