This match looks to be a real livewire encounter between the enigmatic Alexander Bublik and Sunday’s Vienna Open runner-up Lorenzo Sonego, who comes into the Paris Masters with the added attention of beating Novak Djokovic last Friday in emphatic fasjion. We will learn so much more about the Italian, who had been in some dark-horse form already sunce the re-start of the season, as he comes from the crushing disappointment of defeat at the last hurdle in Vienna. Sonego was unplayable for much of the week having played with the nothing-to-lose freedom of a lucky loser and he will have to cope with being the favourite in this opening match. Bublik is a loose cannon at the best of times and could well pounce on the first set before Sonego has really settled as easily as he could lose this in an hour, but Sonego beat the Kazakhstani in straight-sets in Paris last month at Roland-Garros and he should win again here.
