World number 61 Jordan Thompson fell foul of Finland’s rising star Emil Ruusuvuori in the round of 16 of the Astana Open last week but the Aussie will have been glad to break a four-match losing streak in the first round against Cameron Norrie. He faces hard-working Argentinian Federico Delbonis in some similar recent form, although the 30-year-old did reach the quarter-finals of the Sardinia Open with an impressive win over Pablo Andujar. However, Thompson is certainly the better player of the two and beat Delbonis at last year’s Indian Wells which is a similar scenario to the ATP 1000 Paris Masters. That day it took a deciding set to see Thompson over the line and it could be a similar story here with the Aussie doing so in both of his matches last week in Astana.
