THE PREDICTION
2018 Paris Masters champion Karen Khachanov is still within the ATP top 20 but his form in 2020 leaves much to be desired as he seems to fall further away from his peers, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. The 24-year-old was initially the most successful of the three but his playstyle looks to have been found out of late with his last decent win coming against Cristian Garin at the French Open. He has since lost to Dan Evans and Grigor Dimitrov at the European Open and Vienna Open, respectively, in manners that suggest he needs to go back to the drawing board as he relies too heavily on his engine and can be regularly out-thought. He faces a plucky young Spanish prospect in Alejandro Davidovich Fokina who has challenged top players of late in three well-placed losses to Andrey Rublev at Roland-Garros, Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of Cologne 1 and Diego Schwartzman the following week. If Khachanov is not careful he could be behind here before he knows it but that is largely conjecture until we see which version of the Russian turns up. Khachanov should win but there is a hint of upset about this match and it should take a deciding set to part them at the least.
