THE PREDICTION
This is surely one of the ties of the round as US Open champion and two-time French Open finalist Dominic Thiem takes on emerging talent Casper Ruud. #NextGen star Ruud reached the semi-finals of both the Italian Open and the Hamburg Open in the lead-up to Paris and his game is perfectly suited to clay. He was dominant in his first-round win over Yuichi Sugita but was taken to five sets by American Tommy Paul on Wednesday so that isn’t exactly idea preparation for facing one of the tournament favourites. Thiem is yet to drop a set in his own run and saved three set points in the third set of his win over Jack Sock in the second round but that is a testament to his self-belief right now and he will be confident of coming through any situation after his comeback win in the US Open final last month. This promises to be a fierce battle but Thiem has the edge and is predicted to come through in four sets.
