THE PREDICTION

Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin came through a difficult tie with fellow American Danielle Collins on Wednesday to set up her first semi-final here at Roland-Garros. The 21-year-old was prolific at times and managed to recalibrate expertly when Collins rallied to force a decider. She faces Petra Kvitova, who made quick work of her quarter-final against Laura Siegemund, and despite being the higher seed here Kenin will be the slight underdog. Kvitova’s campaign has been spotless so far as she has yet to drop a set, although she has faced a slightly easier field of players. This could work against her, though, as Kenin is likely to be the first to take one from her so it will be testament to whichever player’s resolve that wins what should be a fantastic match here. The fact that Kenin has never beaten Kvitova before suggests the Czech shades it, but Kenin’s abilities make her a big-game player and this match going to three sets seems the most logical outcome.
