THE PREDICTION

Elina Svitolina is the highest seeded player left in the women’s draw and will surely be thinking she has an excellent chance of winning her first Grand Slam now that top seed Simona Halep has exited the tournament. Her next challenge sees her face qualifier Nadia Podoroska who has been enjoying a dream run on what is her first appearance in the main draw at Roland-Garros. She can’t be written off here as she’s playing with plenty of confidence right now and will relish her underdog status, but Svitolina’s sheer consistency from the back of the court is likely to wear her down. That said, she has surprised plenty of onlookers so far and if she plays to the same standard she is capable of exploiting any complacency from Svitolina’s side of the court. If this match follows the script though, then Svitolina is the victor.
