THE PREDICTION
Qualifier Daniel Altmaier has come from absolutely nowhere to reach the fourth round of the French Open on what is his maiden Grand Slam appearance and what is even more astounding is the fact that the world number 186 has yet to drop a set in the main draw of the tournament in wins over Feliciano Lopez, Jan-Lennard Struff and Matteo Berrettini. It is safe to say that he has nothing to lose here and can play with freedom against Pablo Carreno Busta but you would have to favour the Spaniard given the form he is in. The 17th-seed defeated compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut in the last round and has dropped just the one set in the tournament so far. He is playing some of the best tennis of his career right now and is now getting used to performing at the business end of Grand Slams having recently reached the semi-finals of the US Open. That extra experience should give him the edge here but don’t rule out the impressive Almaier from giving him some problems along the way.
