THE PREDICTION
Novak Djokovic continues to march on in his relentless pursuit of another Grand Slam title with the Serb yet to drop a set in the first three rounds and looking as formidable as ever. It is well-publicised now that his only defeat in 2020 was his disqualification against Pablo Carreno Busta at the US Open and his confidence is clearly sky high on clay following his triumph at the recent Italian Open. Karen Khachanov – a quarter-finalist at Roland-Garros last year – is likely to be Djokovic’s sternest test so far in Paris as the Russian has been playing some formidable tennis of his own so far. Having largely struggled for form in the post-lockdown period, Khachanov has found some rhythm on the red dirt and was particularly impressive in his four-set win over Cristian Garin last time out. Djokovic, though, is a major step up in class and his unerring consistency from the baseline will be too much for Khachanov over this distance. It may require a tie-break or two, but Djokovic is still expected to come through this test in straight sets.
