THE PREDICTION
Dusan Lajovic was the victor the last time he faced the USA’s Frances Tiafoe back in 2017 in the first round of Indian Wells but Tiafoe will be a different prospect three years later. However, neither player comes to the European Open in any kind of form with both losing in the first round of the Sardinia Open last week – Lajovic to the eventual champion Laslo Djere. For Tiafoe, 2020 will be a difficult second album to forget after his breakthrough last year saw him reach a career high 29th in the world, while Lajovic started 2020 off in great ATP Cup form but has faltered since. The Serb is still, somewhat surprisingly, 25th in the ATP rankings and looks the likelier of the two to come away with a win here but it is a match that could easily go either way.
