THE PREDICTION
After his convincing straight-sets victory in the final of last week’s tournament here in cologne, Alexander Zverev will do well not to fall at the first hurdle here against John Millman. The German number one beat Felix Auger-Aliassime to win his first title in over a year but is one of many players capable of a big lapse in concentration after a strong week of form. 31-year-old Millman made short work of Fernando Verdasco in the first round and he will be aware of the motivation levels as a tireless player himself. The pair shared a five-set epic at last year’s Roland-Garros, where Zverev eventually won the decider after the Australian came back from two sets down and similar fare could be in store here. A brave call would be for Millman to pull the upset over Zverev but for want of a tricky result it would be safer to suggest this match goes down to the wire before one of them wins it.
