All eyes will be on rising star Jannik Sinner in this quarter-final clash but Gilles Simon upset the odds by beating third-seed Denis Shapovalov in the round of 16 and he has the ability to outwit his young opponent here. Sinner reached a career-high 46 in the world after his French Open heroics and looks to have continued his blistering form in Cologne, conceding just seven games so far in dominative wins over James Duckworth and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. The Italian 19-year-old was barely born when his veteran opponent turned professional in 2002 and Simon has the patience to weather a storm or two from Sinner’s racket like he did to defeat Shapovalov. Still, though, Sinner’s performances this last month have been nothing short of astounding and he quite simply looks too powerful to be stopped at this stage. Sinner to take this in straight-sets looks a reasonable call.
