THE PREDICTION
Spanish prospect Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is yet to drop a set at the European Open after two commanding displays against Damir Dzumhur and Steve Johnson but he faces a far more difficult test here. The 21-year-old reached a career-high 64th on Monday after a strong showing at last week’s sister tournament and he should climb the rankings further still, though Diego Schwartzman should be winning this quarter-final. In the Argentine’s last 12 matches he has only lost to Novak Djokovic or Rafael Nadal – in fact also beating Nadal on his way to the Italian Open final back in September. Schwartzman is chasing ATP Finals qualification here and, though Davidovich Fokina will be a test, the world number 9 should emulate their Australian Open encounter earlier this year with another straight-sets win.
