THE PREDICTION
Germany’s Daniel Altmaier put together quite the run at Roland-Garros at the start of this month, reaching the round of 16 before eventually coming unstuck against Pablo Carreno Busta. The qualifier had taken out compatriot Jan-Lennard Struff, Feliciano Lopez and, remarkably, Matteo Berrettini, all in straight sets, on his excellent run there and it seems no surprise that he faltered at the first hurdle last week in Cologne after such an effort. Altmaier lost in three sets to Henri Laaksonen just six days ago but should be refreshed and ready to go against Egor Gerasimov here. The Belarusian qualifier is on a three-match losing streak and lost a match he should have won in the first round of the St. Petersburg Open last week. Altmaier should fare better in Cologne 2 with a straight-sets win to begin the new campaign.
