Taylor Townsend vs Sofia Kenin prediction

Taylor Townsend defeated Queen’s Club champion Tatjana Maria in straight sets to make it through to the round-of-16 in Washington. The American staged an exceptional comeback in the second set, coming from 4-0 down to win 7-5. She had earlier taken the first set 6-4. Townsend also saved eight out of 10 break point opportunities conceded overall.

She takes on Sofia Kenin in the next stage of the tournament. Kenin defeated Hailey Baptiste in her first-round match. She also was forced to come back from a second set deficit, as Baptiste had the opportunity to serve it out and force a decider. Nevertheless, Kenin broke from 3-5 down and controlled the tiebreak to win 6-4 7-6. 

Kenin leads the head-to-head 4-2 but Townsend came out on top in their only previous hard court match, though that took place in 2017. Kenin defeated Townsend earlier this month in the first-round of Wimbledon.

Townsend did look vulnerable at times in her first-round match, and she could very well be exposed by someone of Kenin’s undoubted quality. We give her the edge in this one.
