Taylor Townsend vs Liudmila Samsonova prediction

Taylor Townsend made the most of her wildcard by beating Danielle Collins in straight sets in the first round and she will be delighted with the way she is playing right now.

While the doubles remains her priority, Townsend reached the quarter-finals in Washington a couple of weeks ago and will now be hoping to string another good tournament together here.

She now faces Liudmila Samsonova who is the 13th-seed in Cincinnati this week and she will be hoping to perform better than she did in Montreal last week. She was eliminated by Naomi Osaka who went on to be runner-up and while there is obviously no shame in that, she will be hoping to put a run together here to get some momentum before the US Open.

She reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and played well before losing to Iga Swiatek and she will expect to get back on track in Cincinnati this week.

We strongly fancy her chances in this one and expect her to win. She will be fired up to get some wins under her belt and with motivation on her side, we favour her to beat Townsend who may have half an eye on the doubles where she also meets Samsonova in the opening match.
