He will take on Valentin Vacherot. The Monegasque is set to play in his first match since completing one of the biggest shocks in tennis history as he became the lowest ranked player to ever win a Masters event in Shanghai. In a scarcely believable final, Vacherot defeated his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in three sets, having already defeated five seeded players en route to the title. He is now ranked 40 in the world, but he’s been handed a very tough first-round match against Fritz.
Fritz is such a solid player in these conditions and despite Vacherot’s incredible achievement, the American will be expected to win in straight sets.
