The American, who saved a match point in his quarter-final match against Alex Michelsen, outlasted Nakashima to win 6-3 3-6 6-3. Fritz broke in the second game of the third set and raced clear to win after one hour and 46 minutes.
His opponent in the final will be Rafael Jodar. The teenager continued his incredible first year on tour as he advanced after coming from a set down to beat Alejandro Tabilo. Jodar lost the first set on a tiebreak but was never broken on serve and conceded just the one break point as he won 6-7 (6) 6-4 6-4. He is now into his first ATP 500 final.
Fritz will be determined to get the job done after three previous final losses in 2026, but he will have to be aggressive against Jodar, who may gain the upper hand in the extended rallies.
