Taylor Fritz began his Wimbledon campaign with a straight sets win over Dusan Lajovic in the first-round. The 2024 US Open finalist was originally drawn to play Jack Draper, but the former world number four was forced to withdraw on the eve of the tournament. Fritz faced just one break point and powered down 14 aces as he won 6-4 6-3 6-4 after one hour and 41 minutes.
He will now play Patrick Kypson in the second-round. Kypson came from a set down to beat Mackenzie McDonald on his SW19 debut. He won 3-6 6-1 6-4 6-4 after two hours and 22 minutes. This was his first match on tour since the Italian Open in early May due to injury.
Fritz is viewed as one of the favourites to reach the final, and his draw has opened further after the shock first-round exit of Ben Shelton. His serve is such a weapon on this surface, and he is unlikely to encounter many problems against Kypson.
