Taylor Fritz fell victim to a drop shot masterclass in Thursday's semi-final with Carlos Alcaraz, with the American losing 4-6, 2-6 to the world number one. Fritz had no answer to his opponent's variety and struggled to find his way into a match where he was clearly second best.

It was a similar case for Novak Djokovic, who was thoroughly outclassed again by Jannik Sinner as the Serb also lost 4-6, 2-6. Djokovic has firmly been 'the best player not named Alcaraz or Sinner' this year, but the gap to those two is only widening now as he reaches the latter stages of his career.

Djokovic has a thoroughly dominant head-to-head score with Fritz having won all 11 previous ATP meetings between the pair, including a four-set triumph in the quarter-finals of this year's US Open. However, Djokovic is dealing with one or two physical issues at the moment and may not have the intensity needed to deny Fritz a first victory over the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

Fritz will be hungry to break his duck here, and could be worth backing to get over the line against a weary opponent.
