Taylor Fritz continued his serene progress at the start of Wimbledon as he defeated Patrick Kypson in straight sets to reach the third-round. Fritz, who reached the semi-finals last year, struck 19 aces and faced just the one break point as he won 6-2 6-2 7-5 after two hours and two minutes. Fritz beat Dusan Lajovic in the first-round.
He will play Lorenzo Sonego for a place in the round-of-16. The Italian continued his resurgence with a five set victory over Gabriel Diallo. Sonego largely dominated the decider to win 7-6 (4) 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-7 (6) 6-2 after four hours and 23 minutes.
Fritz leads the ATP head-to-head 6-2 and 1-0 on grass. They last played at Wimbledon eight years ago in the first-round, with the American coming from a set down to win. Fritz is the favourite but this is his toughest test so far, with Sonego capable of testing top-level players on grass with his aggressive and explosive game style.
