Perhaps rather fittingly, Joao Fonseca will now face Taylor Fritz in Eastbourne after the Brazilian became the youngster winner of a match at the event since the American top seed in 2015.
The 18-year-old also secured what was a first tour-level victory on grass with a superb 6-7 6-0 6-3 comeback win over Zizou Bergs.
This will be a first meeting between the pair and it’s sure to catch the eye as one of the match-ups of the week.
Fonseca has the forehand to do plenty of damage, but Fritz has the more consistent serve and is probably more efficient off both wings at present.
