Taylor Fritz has enjoyed a very fruitful grass court season leading up to Wimbledon. He began by winning his first title of the season in Stuttgart, beating Alexander Zverev in the final to register his fifth successive win over the German. He then suffered a surprising loss in the first-round of Queen’s Club despite holding a match point against Corentin Moutet. However, that disappointment evaporated as he claimed his fourth Eastbourne title and fifth on grass overall after defeating the likes of Joao Fonseca, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and compatriot Jenson Brooksby in the final.
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard has struggled to make an impact so far on the grass. A second-round elimination in Stuttgart was followed up by a defeat in the first-round of Queen’s to Brandon Nakashima. He decided to withdraw from Eastbourne a week later. The big serving Frenchman has plenty of points to defend after his brilliant run as a lucky loser to the fourth-round last year.
Despite his poor form, Mpetshi Perricard is an awkward opponent for Fritz to begin his Wimbledon campaign. He’s in his best run of form for some time and should make it through, but he may have to be patient against the big server.
