Taylor Fritz vs Alex de Minaur prediction
Taylor Fritz produced a brilliant display but still ended up on the losing side against Carlos Alcaraz in his second group stage match. He was aggressive from the start, hurrying Alcaraz at any given opportunity as he took the first set on a tiebreak. He had opportunities to break the Spaniard’s serve in set two, but Alcaraz held firm, before he then broke right at the end of the second to draw level. Fritz’s level dropped in the decider as Alcaraz came through to win 6-7 (2) 7-5 6-3.
He will face Alex De Minaur next. The Australian suffered a demoralising defeat to Lorenzo Musetti last time out to leave him all but eliminated from the competition. He didn’t make a good start here as he went a set down but rallied to force a decider. He looked to have made a significant step to victory as he broke at the start and served for the match at 5-4 up. However, Musetti, cheered on by a vocal Italian crowd, reeled off three straight games to win 7-5 3-6 7-5. De Minaur is still without a victory at the ATP Finals, having lost all five of his matches.
The head-to-head is 5-4 in favour of Fritz, excluding their Next Gen Finals match from seven years ago. Their last two matches have both been indoors, with Fritz coming from a set down to win in the round robin stage last year and then beating De Minaur in straight sets at the Davis Cup a couple of weeks later.
Fritz served extremely well against Alcaraz, with a first serve percentage of 75%, and he always seems to perform to a high standard in Turin. This is a must-win for him in terms of making it to the next stage and it should be expected that the American rises to the occasion.
