Alejandro Davidovich Fokina disappointed the American crowd as he demolished Learner Tien to reach the last eight in Washington.

The 19-year-old starlet could not replicate the supreme tennis that saw him eliminate Andrey Rublev as the Spaniard rampaged to a 6-2 6-2 win.

Foki will now face Taylor Fritz after the top seed booked a spot in a fourth quarter-final in his previous five tournaments with a 6-3 6-4 win over Matteo Arnaldi.

It was a 15th victory from his last 17 matches for the world number four and sets him up nicely for his seventh career meeting with Davidovich Fokina.

The head-to-head is intriguingly poised at 3-3 with Fritz winning the last two of three encounters in 2025.

Surprisingly, Foki won their only match on an outdoor hardcourt 7-6 7-6, which was earlier this year at Delray Beach.

The Spaniard is not to be underestimated when he’s on-song, but Fritz is in such a hot streak at present that we expect he will avenge that previous defeat on home soil.
